A quote is simply an excerpt from a book or poem. This type of writing is usually done by hand, and so it's referred to as a handwritten quote. Handwritten quotes are typically taken down verbatim from the person who spoke them. For example, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow would dictate his poems to his daughter.

The poems were then transcribed and then his daughter would write them down verbatim.
